    Noosa Running

Noosa National Park Loop This is my favourite Noosa run with spectacular scenery and varied terrain. From where we normally stay on the river it’s 14 km in total but from Noosa Beach it’s 9 km. From Hastings St., the trail runs along the coast with a mixture of asphalt and boardwalk and a couple fo decent hills to the National Park. Once there, I always run the loop anti-clockwise, up the Tanglewood Track and then around the coastal trail. The Tanglewood Track is a steep, fairly rough uphill with rocks and tree roots through the rainforest. Since I have been known to trip over on the Elwood Boardwalk I…

Random Things: Marathon Sign-Up, Internet Free Day #2, New Year Peeve, Perspective

I hoped that 2024 would be the year I finally ticked off a full marathon but I planned to sit on the fence to see if I could get some consistent training going in the first part of the year. Entries for the Melbourne Marathon to be held in October sold out in the first two days after opening. That left the Gold Coast Marathon in July as my next best opportunity. I still hoped to be able to wait until late February to make the call but on the 21st of December Hubby forwarded the information that the marathon was 50% sold three weeks after registrations opened. I decided…

    Cross Country Running

We had our last cross-country race on Saturday. This season has been a bit of a bust for me and the last race did not break the bad run. I never really managed to throw off my previous cold completely and now I’m down with another one. The course was a shocker with two hilly laps. Of course, the hills are on the back end of the laps with the race to the finish line up a steep, very uneven hill. It was enough to trigger flashbacks to school cross country. At our school, inter-house swimming, athletics and cross-country days were compulsory. For cross-country that meant everyone had to complete…

    Gold Coast Half-Marathon Recap

Last Saturday, I ran the Gold Coast Half-Marathon. My preparation since my multiple lurgies in early March/April went as well as I could have hoped for. I built up to several long runs over 20km, topping out at a 24km long run three weeks before the race. I mostly hit my goal paces on my workouts and did all my scheduled runs apart from a couple in the taper since we were at K’Gari, and it wasn’t conducive to running due to the dingoes and the terrain. I had a small blip on my last long a week before the race. We’d packed up to leave for K’Gari on the…

    Friday Thoughts #16

Noosa has been incredible so far. The weather has been stunning, although a change is coming this weekend. Last year while we were here, I didn’t swim in the ocean once. After the success of my goal to swim five times over summer, I’ve decided to do the same thing while I’m up here. I’ve already swum twice, including this morning. Of course, hitting this goal with a water temperature of 22C on Noosa’s main beach is not too hard. We’ve also been taking advantage of the weather with walks along the river in the morning when we don’t have a run scheduled and around sunset every day. Sometimes we…

    Friday Thoughts #12

What? Is it already Friday? It was Anzac Day on Tuesday, and Hubby took Monday off so we could get some jobs done around the home. We had a big box of bits and pieces from the various appliances installed in the apartment, and we went through that to work out what we needed to keep and what could go away, so that’s another box in the study gone. We’re getting some quotes for some built-in cabinetry in there. Hopefully, we can get rid of the rest of the boxes and get everything put away neatly. I find shorter weeks mess with my routine, and this week has been a…

    Friday Thoughts #8

It’s been a week since I posted here … oops. I’ve been wondering if the email for replies to comments is working. If you’ve received a email when I’ve replied to your comment can you let me know below? When I run alone on easy or long runs, I usually listen to a podcast and have been loving my AirPods that I received as a Christmas present. Yesterday I stopped for a drink and when I stood up one of the Airpods fell out of my ear and into the drain that was next to the tap. You know how it is when things seem to be happening in slow…

    Scraped Knees

This is why it’s a miracle I didn’t come a cropper during the Two Bays Trail Run I fell over running easy on the Elwood Beach Boardwalk. Scraped knees are a constant during childhood. You’d think I would have outgrown this by now, but it seems I have to top up the scar tissue every couple of years. I also habitually hit my head on things and bump into the furniture. Yesterday I dropped a cube of parmesan cheese on my big toe … and it hurt. Tell me your latest “ouchies’, and we can commiserate together.
