    Good Things Friday

So this week, my foot has not improved, and now I have a cold, so it’s not great, but I went to the physio this morning and have a plan for the week, which is a good thing. I will need to be off my feet just in case it is a stress reaction in the bone, so no running or walking for me, but I can ride and go to the gym once I’m over my cold. I also have some non-weight-bearing exercises in case it is the tendons. We will reassess next week, and if it’s not getting better, I’ll need to go for an MRI. In spite…

    Tasmania 2024 Day 4: Hobart

This post continues my recap of our trip to Tasmania. See previous posts: Day 1, Day 2, Day3. Monday 26th February. Our friend picked us up at 8:30 a.m. for a little outing on Kununyi/Mount Wellington. G and our friend went trail running while I did some hiking. I snapped a photo of the trail map so I could find my way back, and we all headed off in different directions. G and our friend ran the Organ Pipes circuit while I walked to Sphinx Rock. After admiring the view, I kept going and circled down to O’Grady’s Falls, then continued until I hit the Fingerpost Track, which was a…

    Good Things Friday

We have had some beautiful Autumn weather here this week, as well as some heavy rain. Here’s a few good things from my week. The Weekend Although I had vertigo on Saturday afternoon and lingering effects (including the headache) on Sunday and into Monday, there were still some good things. G arrived home from overseas early Saturday morning. The weather was a beautiful Autumn day. I went for a bike ride in the afternoon down the coast trail, and it was stunning. I replaced a run to lessen the load on my sore foot and then stopped at Hampton to replenish the pantry stocks at the bulk food store. I…

    A Couple of Savoury Breakfasts

I’ve mentioned several times that, in response to Dr. Stacy Sims’s book Next Level, I’ve been trying to increase my protein intake. My dinners are usually fine, so I’ve been concentrating on getting between 25 and 30 grams of protein for breakfast and lunch. It’s been a bit of trial and error—this whole process would be a lot easier if I could eat lots of dairy. So far, I’ve worked out a number of breakfasts. Here are two of my favourite savoury options. Do you prefer savoury or sweet breakfasts? I enjoy both, but probably default to sweet porridge more often. Next time, I’ll share my high-protein porridge recipe, but…

    Rubbish Audit #1

Note: I am privileged with time, education and resources that allow me to make choices that are not available to everyone. Each of us has to make decisions based on our circumstances and values. You can read more of my thoughts on this topic here and a related quote. So, this post is me doing me; I encourage you to do you … always thoughtfully, of course! As part of my sustainability goals, I have on my list to “do a rubbish audit and then reduce rubbish by 25%.” Last week, I did the first part, which was to audit our rubbish. The idea is to see how much rubbish…

    Good Things Friday

G left for China on Sunday, so I’ve been largely solo adulting this week. I must say it is much better than solo parenting. Monday, family dinner was still on, but it was only the girls and I. The weather has been rainy and colder here, we are moving fully into autumn. The leaves on our maple tree have just started to turn. Cool Bloggers Walking Club I’m joining Elisabeth’s CBWC in April, and I’ve decided to pair it with my planned A-Z photography project. As I walk this month, I’ll be looking for things around the neighbourhood that start with all the letters of the alphabet. Above is a…

    Renewal: First Quarter Thoughts

Since I picked my word, I’ve had lots of thoughts about renewal, but most are floating around willy-nilly in my head. I think I need to wrangle them into written form to really pin them down, which I WILL do. In the meantime, I thought I’d jot down a few thoughts on how it’s been going and what I’ve been thinking about, but first, I want to give a bit more detail about the reason why renewal is a good fit for this year. We all know the pandemic disrupted people’s lives—here in Melbourne, we had six lockdowns totalling 262 days over the course of 2020 and 2021. 151 of…
