In honour of the Paris Olympics and also to refresh my mind before my second trip to Paris later this year, I thought it might be fun to do a recap of the trip I took to France with G and our daughter in the Easter holidays of 2018. In our family, we had a tradition where we took each of the kids on a trip to Europe when they were in year 11. This was our younger daughter’s. We chose France because she took French up until the end of high school. She let me plan the whole trip with one request—she wanted to see the mountains. We decided to split our trip, with half spent in Paris and the other in the south of France, to cover the mountain request without needing to rug up. We started our holiday in Nice and had a taste of the wide range of cultures and landscapes, including the coast, the mountains, the Calanques, the Camargue and inland hill towns in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur. Afterwards, we hopped on a fast train to Paris and spent almost a week in Paris with a day trip to the Somme. We stayed mainly in AirBnB accommodation, except for the last night in Paris because our apartment had developed an electrical fault that they couldn’t fix. This is where we spent our nights:

Thurs 29th March to Sat 31st March: Nice
Sun 1st April: Cassis
Mon 2nd April to Tues 3rd April: Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer
Wed 4th April to Thurs 5th April: Beaumes-de-Venise
Fri 6th April to Sat 14th April: Paris

Oh, I adore France. I’ve been loving the Olympics, especially when you see glimpses of Paris, rather than the inside of a gym or a pool. I’m watching Equestrian right now, and it’s at Versailles. So beautiful.
I spent a week down south in 2022, and loved it. I don’t think we saw any of the same places though, which is making me want to go back and see different villages. <3
Provence is so varied. We didn’t spend heaps of time on the Riviera itself. Maybe I’ll get back there one day.
I’ve been LOVING watching the Olympics. I’m watching beach volleyball while I type this comment and it’s so cool that it’s right at the base of the Eiffel Tower.
I’ve been to France once, but just to Paris. I’d love to go back and explore more of the country.
Paris is a magical city and I absolutely loved it. So much to see and do, amazing food. It really does feel like something out of a fairy tale with all the quaint streets and gorgeous museums.
I adore France! I’ve been there 3 times but I’ve only been to Paris and Lyon. I went to Paris on all 3 trips; on one of my 3 trips I spent 2 weeks in Lyon for a grad school program. I would like to explore other regions of France but have loved Paris so much that I have focused on that city for previous trips, all of which were done alone when I was single (besides the 2 weeks in Lyon with other grad school classmates). I’m not sure what area I’d want to explore next, though, maybe Provence?
I watched a good portion of the opening ceremonies and I LOVED it! I thought it was so well done and entertaining. But I’m incredibly biased towards all things French. 🙂
Oh, I haven’t been to Lyon yet, but would love to go in the future … plus Normany, Brittany, Loire Valley and the Dordogne. I would go back to Provence too. I think there are just too many places to see in the world! I’m biased too. I need to finish watching Emily in Paris.
I have been to France a few times but the last time was 18 (?) years ago, so I’d like to go back.
I suppose a lot of your overseas travel is to see family, but maybe you can squeeze in some time?
I missed the opening ceremony as I was traveling to Hamburg and then had two work.
France does have some great landscapes and cultures for sure.
I visited Paris twice… so far.
