From the Red Hand Files:
If we do not attend to the work of projecting delight upon the world, what are we actually doing? If we do not look for joy, search for it, reach deep for it, what are we saying about the world? Are we saying that malevolence is the routine stuff of life, that oppression and corruption and degradation is the very matter of the world? That we greet each day with suspicion, bitterness and contempt? It seems to me that to make suffering the focus of our attention, to pay witness only to the malevolence of the world, is to be in service to the devil himself.

Hubby finally found a groomer near us that would take Riley. Most only do small dogs, and the ones that take larger dogs weren’t taking on new clients. He went on Wednesday, and although it was expensive, they did a fantastic job. I think we’ll go back there.
I love having flavour bombs in my fridge to add to salad bowls and dinners that need a lift. Currently, I have quick pickled red onion (this is the bomb, and provides a much milder onion flavour than raw red onion), my dad’s homemade tomato chutney, caper, lemon and parsley dressing and celery leaf gremolata (finely chopped celery leaves, olives, lemon zest, pepper and salt).
Do you have some favourite flavour bombs that you like to keep on hand to lift your meals from meh to yum? I’d love to add some to my repertoire.

Why yes I do. Pinch of Yum’s everything marinade (minus the soy sauce, I prefer it without). I shake this up in a protein shaker, store it in the fridge and put it on EVERYTHING. I love this sauce so, so much. I rarely marinade anything with it, but it goes on salads, wraps…this would taste delicious on cardboard.
I happen to love smoked paprika, though, so it may not be everyone’s cup o’ tea.

I love smoked paprika, so I’ll whip up a batch. Thank-you.
In general, my dog does not tolerate ties or kerchiefs around her neck. But the groomer once put on a dashing red bow tie after a groom and I make the dog wear it for ALL photographed events, particularly around the holidays. I adore a dog in a bow tie.
Riley isn’t a fan of anything extra on him, either. The bow lasted until late afternoon, and then I found it on the floor. I’m not sure whether it just fell off or he’s worked it off.
Those pickled onions are looking so good. i will check out the recipe. I love onions. This would also make a great present for my dead.
I don’t really have any flavour bombs (what a great word). Or I can’t think of any righht now.
These pickled onions are so easy. Maybe 5 minutes work, including slicing up the onion.
I have a couple of recipes that use pickled onions, and I love them. I should probably keep some in the fridge like you do.
We have a mobile groomer that comes to us and grooms our dog, which is much less stressful for him, and a tiny bit less money.
A mobile groomer would be ideal but we don’t have anywhere for them to do it because we are in apartment and they usually need access to power and water.
I love pickled *anything* but I have not tried onions… I made my own pickled beets for a while and they were delicious.
Yes, I love pickled beets too! My parents make them semi-regularly and I do them occasionally.
Yes, I’ve made pickled onions before and they are a flavor bomb! I’m also going to check out Elisabeth’s link for that marinade. i love that qhote, and also the photo of Riley looking so dapper!!!
