Everyday Objects: Doors

One of the photography projects on my 101 List is an everyday objects series. The idea was to pick something that I would see around the neighbourhood (or when travelling) and look out for those objects as I go about my days. When I was in the UK I decided to make doors one of my objects. Here’s some of them:

First up, what is apparently the oldest door in Britian. It’s at Westminster Abbey and was built in the 1050’s.

Next up some doors in Princelet St in London’s East End. The area was settled by French Huguenot refugees and they bought some of there architectural flourishes with them.

While I was in London I went out to the Hamstead Heath Parkrun and walked up a cute street with lots of brightly painted doors.

I’m not sure what’s going on with this door in Plas Mawt, an Elizabethan townhouse in Conwy, but it didn’t go all the way up.

The final door was in the street was stayed in Brecon. I love the little bee shaped knocker.

  1. This is a fun collection of photos. When I travel, I’m focused on finding my way around, trying to figure out the language, and hoping they can feed me something without GF. I’m not at all surprised you tackle a fun project like this.

    1. When you travel there is just so much to look at. It is sometimes good to have a little something to draw your focus in to the details.

  2. I love pretty doors! Especially colorful ones. Our front door is in teal – my favorite color!

    1. Lucky you, or did the door sway you towards your current place?

  3. Oooh I like this. Britain’s oldest door! That is so cool and also, HOW DO THEY KNOW?

    1. Yep, the sign should be Britian’s oldest known door, but then I guess that’s just not as catchy.

  4. I love all of these. My husband frequently takes pictures of doors when we travel. There is something so captivating about a door. It is this barrier between the inside and the outside world, but I feel like doors have character of their own (and seem to hint at the resident’s character a bit, too).

I’m with Nicole; the oldest door is fascinating…and how do they know???

    1. I think I’ve seen a number of Jon’s door photos. I’m sure there could be an older door … maybe oldest known door would be more accurate?

  5. Doors are amazing. I have quite a few of those photos myself.

    1. All the details make them interesting.

  6. I love this. All these doors are distinctive and interesting, and also, doors can have a lot of symbolism. I like this choice for the prompt.

    1. I find there are much more interesting doors overseas than there are here.
