    Hiking @ Ferny

I’ve mentioned before that my husband has moved to a 4-day work week and I work casual hours from home, so some weeks we can do some fun things during the week. Last Friday I wanted to hike, and G had been wanting to take me up to Ferny to show me the running trail so I don’t get lost when I go up with the crew to run. The weather was lovely for hiking—about 22C and fluffy clouds dotted in a blue sky. A lot of the trail is in the Dandenong Ranges National Park. The Dandenong ranges are on the outskirts of Melbourne, about 30km from us and…

Lightscape 2023 – The Royal Botanic Gardens

Last year I was keen to see Lightscape at the Royal Botanic Gardens, but the tickets were sold out when I got myself organised. This year I vowed not to make the same mistake, so I decided we would go as soon as we had a good weather forecast. A flurry of messages in our family group chat established that the kids were keen to go, so last Wednesday, we went. Our son and daughter had early work finishes, so we could make it to the first block at 5:30 pm. The sun had just set, so we were in twilight for the first little bit. LIghtscape is an immersive…

    Victorian National Parks

At the start of the year, I made a goal to visit all 45 of Victoria’s National Parks, plus the Castlemaine National Heritage Park. I have already seen some of them in the past, but I’m keen to go back and see those again. I ticked off the Mornington Peninsula National Park while doing the Two Bays Trail Run, but I’ll go back to enjoy it more leisurely at some stage. Today we head off to Wilson’s Promontory National Park for three nights. We’re going with friends and plan to do multiple half-day walks, and for Hubby and I, maybe some trail running. This will be my master list. I’ll…

    Friday Thoughts #4

Christmas was at our place this year. We had 16 people, and since it was a warm day, we had ten people sitting at our table inside and six outside with wide open doors. A sea breeze blowing through the courtyard and an umbrella kept things pleasant in the 30C heat. We were responsible for cooking the turkey, the ham and the potatoes. I had a 6.5kg turkey which I calculated should have taken 3.5 hours to cook, so I allowed four hours for it to cook. The recipe for the steam oven that I was using was for a 4 kg bird, which was supposed to take 2.5 hours.…

    Time – Rone Exhibition

For my birthday last week Hubby and I went to Time the Rone Exhibition at Flinders Street Station. Rone is a street artist and creates the most amazing multi-sensory installations featuring his signature female muses. This is the third Rone exhibition we have been to, and we have loved all of them. Each has its theme. Time explores mid-century Melbourne. Each room on the third floor of the station depicts an aspect of working-class Melbourne in intricate detail. There is always so much to look at his exhibitions, and even the windows in the hallway were plastered with newspapers from the period. Everything is carefully selected and arranged to achieve…

    Melbourne Street Art

Melbourne is apparently world-famous for its street art. I want to do a tour one day and learn more about it because I’m clueless, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying it. If I have time, when I go into the city, I like to scoot down some of the laneways and check out what’s around. This is what’s around at the moment. See above why I can’t offer you expert commentary. There are also a series of commissioned works called Flash Fwd. I’ve linked the page for each one so you can learn more. Lees Place: Evans Lane: Corrs Lane 2: Hughs Alley: What do you think of street…
