Hamburg Airbus Factory Tour – Mon 20th Nov

Warehouse District

The big thing scheduled for today was a tour of the Airbus factory, but like all the factory tours, no photos were allowed. In the morning we went back to the warehouse district so we could have more of a look in the daylight.

From there we caught a ferry, train and then bus out to the factory. The tour was a combination of driving round the site in a bus and hoping off at various points in the production line to see what was happening. This plant assembles the A320 and associated planes, all the way up to delivery. It was a pretty interesting tour. In the hangers they have raised platforms at the edge where you stand while the guides points out and explains the process. We even got to see one of the Belugas that ferry the large plane parts in to the factory from other Airbus sites.

Once we arrived home E wasn’t feeling great so we got a pizza dinner at a place close to our apartment. G and I then went to see the infamous Reeperbahn, a notorious entertainment and red-light district. There were a number a brightly lit signs advertising adults only venues, naughty clothes shops and grog shops but on a Monday night it was pretty tame. We didn’t see the men’s only street. The highlight for G was the neon sign on the public toilet. The Christmas market had also started, which had food, drinks, music and some naughty Christmas decor and decorations, so if you’re looking for something like that you now know where to go. We were home for bed at 9pm.
