I’ve now been to Paris twice, spending a full week both times. There are so many sites to see, but that must be balanced with time to stroll or sit and soak up the ambience. Not to mention making time to try all.the.food. Here’s my list of all the things that didn’t quite make the cut, ready for the day I go back to Paris.
- Palais Garnier. It was on my list for this trip, but the tours weren’t running on the days I was there.
- Saint Martin Canal – bike, walk or cruise
- Centre Pompidou – I ran out of time to do this on my recent trip
- Picnic in the beautiful parks if the weather is good (we haven’t had the weather for a full picnic when we’ve been)
- L’As du Fallafel
- Bibliothèque nationale de France
- La Coulée Verte de Paris
- Tour D’Argent – a big splurge
- A concert at Sainte Chapelle
- Have a drink at Cafe de Flore
- Take another cooking class (croissants or macarons?)
- Musee Curie
- Père Lachaise Cemetery
- Visit Deyrolle
- Cabaret at Au Lapin Agile or Moulin Rouge
- Petite Ceinture
- Try more pastries. The search for my favourite Paris Brest?
- Paris wine walk
- Enjoy mint tea and pastries at the Grand Mosque Cafe
- Day Trip to Chateau de Fontainebleau
Have you done any of these?

Paris sounds wonderful. I’ve never been. The only parts of Europe I’ve been to are Greece and Italy so far, but hoping someday to visit a bit more.
I ohpe you make it someday. It is wonderful.
I have picnicked in the park; I was there for a month on my own and I was in my early 20s (aka did not have a lot of extra money) and spent most days wandering the river banks and streets and chilling in the parks! I recommend it. I will have to find the name of the one I used to go to a lot. I have also been to Pere Lachaise twice and have loved it both times! Also the neighborhood around it is a good place to stop for a drink or snack (or another baguette). I love your list and always have a long one for each place I go, but often only knock a few things off, but that is totally okay, as it gives you a reason to return!
That’s good to know about Pere Lachaise. We did a bit of chilling, but would like to do more.
The kids and I did palais Garnier- fabulous! Cafe de Flore also, but essentially it’s just like another cafe that Paris has so many of. We were by bastille and that’s not far from canal St Martin, a nice area! Rue Cremieux is nearby and all the darn Instagrammers who I just cannot stand…
Cafe de Flore I just want to do once for the history, but yes, not expecting anything special in terms of food/drinks. S and I popped into Rue Cremieux on our trip because it was near where we’d decided to see G while he was running his marathon. I haven’t spent much time in the area over there, but there seems to be lots of great food near the 11th which is the Canal St Martin area.
I am envious of how organized you are. We hope to visit Mini in Italy next semester – maybe in Feb. I’m getting overwhelmed thinking about how to get away and leave the other kids behind AND when to find the time to plan a trip. There aren’t enough hours in a day. I was only in Paris briefly and was burned out from traveling by the time we arrived, so I didn’t see much. I hope to get there sometime.
I don’t have to think about how to leave the kids behind now, but that always added extra work before I went away when they were younger. It’s not easy, but we also didn’t get away as much. Mini might have good ideas for what to do, or things she hasn’t seen that she wants to get to and may be able to take some of the planning load?
Paris is beautiful. I have been to Fontainebleau, but did not see any castles. I visited the forest there, known as a great bouldering spot. To me the nature was absolutely amazing so I’d recommend a visit if possible.
Yes, I’m thinking Fontainebleu would be a good mix of nature and the castle. I owuld try to do a bit of both.
I’ve been to a concert at St. Chappelle and it was so wonderful! So I would highly recommend doing that. I’ve also been to L’As du Fallafel and would recommend. I ordered at the window in the street and sat on the curb to eat it. It was so good and back then it was so cheap, prob less than 10 euro but I imagine the price has gone up since I was there 10 years ago!
Oh, that’s good to know regarding these. Thanks.
Paris is not high on my list tow travel. That said I was there three times so far.
And I did visit Centre Pompidou. However that was in 9th grade and I wasn’t too impressed if I remember right.
You definitely have things for tow more weeks on your Paris bucket list.
