
Early on in my list journey I did a list of foods I ate on Christmas Day and I figured why not almost round off the list with a repeat and see what’s changed. Once again I woke up at my parents place in Point Lonsdale where lunch was held. We drove home in the afternoon to host dinner at our place which I wasn’t happy about. Point Lonsdale is a couple of hours drive from our house and it can be difficult to keep lunch on time and moving ahead with my family so we can finish eating and get back. I managed to work through my anger before the day and vowed not to let anything interfere with my enjoyment. This worked and I had an enjoyable, day, sneaking in a nap at 10 am after I had peeled the potatoes so that I could function properly for the rest of the day.
Anyway, that’s enough blather, let’s get to the food:
- Breakfast
- Toast with butter and dad’s homemade berry jam
- Mum put out the lollies early so I may have raided the bowl over the course of the morning

- Lunch (accompanied by several glasses of champagne)
- Turkey
- Ham
- Stuffing – my brother deep-fried balls of stuffing this year, and it was the bomb. I was very disappointed that there were no leftovers by the time we made it back to Point Lonsdale on Christmas Day.

- Roast Pumpkin
- Roast Carrots
- Green Beans
- Potato Salad
- Carrot and Pearl Couscous Salad
- Bread
- Gravy
- Cranberry Sauce
- Mum’s famous plum pudding
- Custard
- Brandy Cream

- Dinner (I was still very full, so I had a very small plate of food for dinner, but I did manage to fit in dessert)
- Ham
- Coleslaw
- Potato salad
- Gluten-free Apple and Caramel Cheescake
Looking back at that previous list, lunch was almost identical, apart from no roast cauliflower and no second dessert this year and the addition of the salads. We had more people this year (27). Dinner with G’s family always varies a little bit depending on what people feel like doing.

This looks absolutely DELICIOUS!! I can see why you went back for seconds.
It’s great that you were able to enjoy the day despite the logistics of hosting dinner. That plum pudding with the custard (I could live off custard!) and brandy cream looks like the perfect way to round off the meal.
27 people is a lot, but it must have been a lot of fun!

27 people! I was thinking “wow that’s a big spread” but I guess so! You need a big spread for 27 people!
Traditional Christmas dinner foods have never been something I’ve enjoyed, even before I was vegetarian. But now that I “host” (my MIL makes turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes – all things I don’t eat) I make some nice roasted veg and a salad. I made this beautiful salad with pomegranate seeds in it and my SIL, who is 63 going on 12, complained about the pomegranate. She also complained about my wine selection and I am using your comment section to air my grievance since I can’t do it on my own blog!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Anyway, sorry to be bitchy on your page! But seriously. Who SPITS OUT a pomegranate seed and says “I don’t want that in my salad?” I’m just glad her boyfriend was there, he’s always a bit high (he smokes a LOT of pot) and he was like “Nicole, these Brussels sprouts are fucking good.” Lol. IT WAS AN EVENT MELISSA.
Oh my, your Christmas sounds like it was a lot. I really hate people who are always complaining. I mean, just say nothing. And what is wrong with pomegranate seeds? We had pomegranate seeds in our salad too and I love them.
Wow, 27 is a lot. No wonder that table looked weighed down with food.
As there was only two of us for Christmas day, I did a small roast chicken, roast potatoes and carrots, with a side order of Brussels sprout and gravy. Dessert was a cheese platter, crackers, and grapes.
On Boxing Day, spent at my SiL, we had roast turkey, mashed potatoes, carrots, peas, gravy, mini meat pies, and mini sausages wrapped in bacon. Plus a choice of desserts. There was 3 different pies, jello, ice cream, cream, and a chocolate log, if anyone had room left.
On New Years day we had a brunch at my MiL. Of course, she went crazy even though there was only 7 of us there. We all came home with bags full of food.
That all sounds wonderful. Lucky you that your MIL over-caters.
That is a lot of people (and hopefully a lot of fun) and a lot of delicious-looking food.
I love Christmas dinner, but it is my daughter’s favourite meal all year long so that makes it special since she looks forward to it with a lot of joy. I mostly like the leftovers. They’re delicious AND it means it’s a meal I don’t have to prepare.
We have turkey, stuffing, homemade rolls, homemade pickles, squash and corn. Dessert is always Unbaked Cherry Cheesecake which is my FAVE!
We have just finished all the ham, which has meant we have had yummy sandwiches most days. We also had leftover plum pudding for dessert one night later in the week. Your dinner sounds yummy.
Yowza – that plate looks amazing. I admit that we are not all that adventurous. We lean in to casseroles. A SIL brought a tossed salad, but I made green bean sweet and sour casserole, and rice brocoli casserole, mashed potatoes, pumpkin bread, a Jello-O mold, and several desserts (kicking myself for making most of them GF, because eek – the leftover desserts are killing me. I have no self restraint). Coach made beef tenderloin. The meat was amazing. We also did appetizers. I did a charcuterie board and 7 layer taco dip. Oh, I also did Irish soda bread so that it was warm /super fresh at dinner. That’s a big crowd. I salute you for stowing your frustration to the side in order to enjoy the day. I focused on the joy on the day, and then I confronted my sisters on their bad behavior the next day. :0
That is a lot of cooking you did. Leftovers can be a real trap, especially desserts.
YUM! All of that food looks so good! This year my family had three separate Christmas dinners (one with my Mom’s family one with my brother and parents, one with my Dad’s family) and so each of them were smaller and guess what, no turkey this year. We had corned beef for one, a pork roast for another and a ham for the third. It was actually kind of nice, as I got to have mashed potatoes twice, and lots of different meats. However, our family has gotten kind of lax on the desserts, so I did not really indulge much. But I have decided to come to your house next year! 🙂
I do like multiple celebrations, but I don’t eat corned beef, but I love roast pork. I love both the savoury and sweet foods at Christmas.
That Christmas Lunch looks amazing! But that is tricky to have a lunch and then have a longish drive home and host another meal. I’m impressed you pulled that off. I can see why you were angry about it. Hosting is hard, and hosting after not being home for a good chunk of the day IS VERY HARD. Congrats for pulling it off but I hope it doesn’t happen again!
G has told them we won’t be doing a double meal for Christmas Day again so I think it should not happen.
I would get seconds with this delicious food. I am getting hungry just looking at it.
We always eat the same thing for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Luckily till this day I had only once or twice needed to cook – the perks of going to my parents.
For my family I just need to help with cooking, not do all the planning, but I guess we will need to start taking overmore of it soon.
