Scraped Knees

This is why it’s a miracle I didn’t come a cropper during the Two Bays Trail Run

I fell over running easy on the Elwood Beach Boardwalk.

Scraped knees are a constant during childhood. You’d think I would have outgrown this by now, but it seems I have to top up the scar tissue every couple of years.

I also habitually hit my head on things and bump into the furniture. Yesterday I dropped a cube of parmesan cheese on my big toe … and it hurt.

Tell me your latest “ouchies’, and we can commiserate together.

  1. I am so clumsy that there is rarely a time when there isn’t a bruise on my body from when I ran into something, most of the time of unknowable origin. Right now I have a giant bruise on my left leg. I’ve no idea how I got it, but there you have it.

I hope your knees feel better soon!

    1. Oh dear, it’s not nice getting bruises all the time but sometimes it’s really hard to avoid … right?

  2. My most recent owie was a huge black eye I got in December, just in time to go to my husband’s company holiday party, which of course was my first time meeting his coworkers. I meant to lean over on the counter in my bathroom in the middle of the night, and I missed. I fell against the bathroom door, hard. SO EMBARRASING! Glad that’s over. Sorry about your knee, that looks painful.

    1. Oh dear, that is unfortunate timing and it’s not easy to hide on your face.

  3. Ouch! That looks like it really stings. Hope it heals quickly. I did have to chuckle at the Parmesan cube.

I bruise very easily. One year when I was in university, I worked at a big research organization over the summer break and lived with my brother. He actually started asking me to wear long sleeves when we went out because I would come home from work with so many bruises he thought people would start asking questions.

It *was* a physically demanding job and I definitely realized some of the time that I had bumped into something that would leave a bruise, but at least 50% of the time I’ll see a giant bruise on my leg or arm and have NO IDEA HOW IT GOT THERE.

That said, I don’t feel overly clumsy and, aside from bruises, I don’t usually get too hurt. A few years ago I did trip on a tree root and fell very hard. I scratched my glasses big time and broke my fall with my hands. Ouch.

    1. Oh yes, I often have bruises and can’t remember what I bumped it on, not as much now as when I was at uni.Your research that you did at uni sounds really interesting.
