Walking the Highline then off to Italy – Nov 7th

The Vessel, Hudson Yards

Our last day in New York (☹️)… but we’re off to Italy (🍝🍦)

We checked out after breakfast and left our luggage at the hotel. We headed over to the Highline, a linear park on the old elevated railway. Although the wildflowers were well past their prime, there were still some blooming and the seed heads and autumn leaves were really beautiful.

There were still some flowers blooming. The colour scheme reminded me of our garden at home
Walkways connecting the old factory buildings

We walked to the Chelsea end, then popped down and doubled back along the river to Little Island. This little park has a very cool design and more wonderful natural style plantings.

We crossed back to the old Nabisco factory which now houses the Chelsea market. We had Very Fresh Noodles for lunch, with a front row seat watching them make the noodles.

After lunch we still had a little bit of time before we needed to catch the bus to the airport so we wandered down to the West Village.

Halloween Decorations
The Magnolia Bakery banana pudding kept popping up in NYC food reviews so I had to see what the fuss was about. It was good, but very rich. I’m glad I got the small size

Our time had finally run out so it was back on the subway one last time. The airport bus stopped at Bryant Park just across from our hotel which was pretty convenient. We were especially glad about that when we saw the huge line of people at the next bus stop that couldn’t fit on the bus. Once at the airport everything went smoothly and we were on the plane ready to fly out as scheduled at 18:25. An hour later we were sitting on the plane with an indicator warning on one of the flaps keeping us on the ground. The pilot informed us they would need to turn power to the aircraft off and we all disembarked with an expected departure time of 20:30. Which became 21:45. G had to organise for his partner to ring the clients he was seeing the following afternoon and reschedule. We finally got airborne at 23:00.

  1. Oh, I would love to walk that elevated walkway. Paris has one as well, and one of my few regrets about my visit there last year was that we didn’t do that. I’ve enjoyed seeing all of your beautiful pictures! Looking forward to Italy.

  2. I’ve done the Highline twice (in the summer) and it’s lovely. We went to the Vessel last summer but it was closed because…someone had jumped 🙁 I wonder if you can walk up it again now?

Little Island – I wanted to visit there sooo badly, but we just never made it over on our family trip to NYC.

    And Italy – YAY!!!!

  3. I missed the Highline when we were in NYC and I am still sad. Little Island also looks a fun place. I know I have said it before but if I ever go back. to NYC I am going to use lots of your travel spots. So fun places. I love it.

Too bad that your flight got delayed. That always kinda sucks.

  4. I think I never heard of the Highline. Definitely a place I’d like to see when I go back to NYC sometime. And there’s nothing better than freshly made pasta…. although I am curious to see how this will compare to pasta in Italy 😉 Can’t wait to hear!

    1. This pasta was good. On a level with Italy. It was definitely a place that was Italian Italian not American Italian.

  5. I am really late with my comment but wnated to say that the pictures are really beautiful and reflect the spirit of New York. I think the Highline in the fall has its own charm 🙂
