Absolutely love this idea and also how methodical you are with the numbers. It really shows how much steady progress adds up over time.
I think I’d like to do something in the “experiences” and “travel” category. We did a quest of “13 Peaks” here in Cape Town – the goal was to hike up 13 mountains around the area (in fact, it’s an official quest with badges and all).
Now, we’re doing mountain bike tours on various vineyards, maybe I should turn that into a proper quest. Thanks for the inspiration!
As for what I’d struggle with: internet-free days, at least at home. It’s easy on our multi-day hikes, as there is simply no internet and no phone connection. It feels liberating!
Yes, making something a quest really does up the enjoyment factor. I’d love to hear more about your bike tours. Do you taste wine as well? The internet days are a struggle sometimes, but I do find them beneficial. Some of my internet days have been while we’ve been away hiking, etc, but we have had internet connection, I’ve just chosen not to use it. I find I do need to plan for my internet free days so that they are achievable.
This whole idea is so incredible to me, Melissa, and it also makes me think…what could I be doing? I like how there are smaller things like making playlists and also bigger things. I have long had a “goal” to make every cake in my friend’s cake cookbook, and I have had that cookbook three years now and still haven’t finished! But it gives me something to strive for.
Cooking through a whole cookbook takes ages, and doubly so for a cake cookbook because you probably can’t make cakes everyday.
Visiting national parks would be such a delight for me. I don’t think my husband or I have been to one together. Maybe that should be a 2026 goal for me. We could board the dog and get away for a week. That sounds delightful to me!
Yes, and the US has so many great National Parks. Sounds like a plan!
The NP visits would be very enjoyable for me! I do not think I could handle internet free days! That would be so hard at this stage of life! We have long stretches of time our exploring but I like to be able to text or email as needed!
We have had a few holidays where we had no cell coverage and it was great. You have so many wonderful national parks in the US
This is so impressive. I track nothing. I love national parks. We’ve been to several, but there are loads of others I’d like to visit. I would like to do a similar photo album project. I have family books for ever year until maybe like 2016 or 17? Not sure. I’ve never done a book for each individual kid, but the idea of doing a family book and then just ordering a bunch of copies for each of them would be faster. (the books I do are the old school photo albums with actual photos stuck to each page). I worked on a ton of those during covid lockdown, and wanted to get back to it. Ah, but life. Adopting two girls has absorbed a ton of time.
You are very busy, I bet there are a heap of things that would be fun/worthwhile but priorities right?
I am in awe of everybody who has such a list and keeps track of it so well… it makes me wonder whatcould be on mine. I definitely want to see more National Parks here in the US (so I have travel goals). I also really like the idea of a cooking challenge.
I love including big and small things on my list. The travel section is usually the first part that I fill up.
This is so impressive! I feel a tracked project that is this long is something I would have close to 0% chance of finishing. But I’m tempted to try. I love the US National Parks and have been to several, but there’s more to see. Re-visits are actually highest on my list right now- Olympic National Park and Yosemite!
Going into It I know I’m not going to finish it, but having something to aim for gets me closer than I would otherwise.
I am so impressed that after only a year you are basically almost half done with your list. You are crushing it while I am limping behind on my list. Ha. But it’s inspiring and motivates me to talke a few more on my list.
My list actually finished next year, so I am well behind, and know there will be a number that I won’t complete.
