A Little Peak in our Bedroom

I had on my list to get an artwork and some kind of storage for our bedroom. We had seen the perfect cabinet last year when we were helping our daughter look for a new bed but the cabinet was out of stock at the time. We found an artwork in January and in February we were notified that the cabinet was in stock. Everything is in our bedroom now and I couldn’t be happier. This wall is opposite our bed and has TV and other entertainment plugs behind the artwork and the cabinet. It is lovely to finally have them covered. We really have no intention of ever getting a TV in our bedroom but wiring for that kind of thing is standard in new builds now. At the moment we have puzzles and some bands and spiky balls that I use for mobility work in cabinet, but most of it is still empty.

This is the view of the rest of the room. This was our first king size bed (26 years into our marriage) and I love it. So much room! Our apartment stays quite warm so we usually sleep under a sheet in summer and pull up the light cotton blanket when it gets a bit cooler. Very occasionally I’ll pull the linen quilted blanket up as well. I know the fashion is to have a big fluffy doona and multiple pillows, to give a cozy look but a doona would be way too hot and having one extra pillow each is enough fluffing around for us. I guess I’m just lazy like that. The paintings were my parents. I really like how the room has turned out—the muted colours and the minimalism feel relaxing to me.

Are you a minimalist or maximalist? Extra pillows—a necessary indulgence or unnecessary work?

  1. I absolutely LOVE how your bedroom turned out. I am leaning toward a minimalist side, for sure. It is so serene, and truly feels restful!
How were do you keep your STUFF that people usually keep in bedrooms? Thinking reading glasses, books, clothes?..
Congrats on such a wonderful space! And yes, keep the tv out of it.

  2. A peak into your bedroom, you saucy thing!
Seriously, it’s such a beautiful, peaceful space. I’m not a minimalist or a maximalist, but I do like the two decorative pillows we have on our bed. We are also Team King Size Bed. I like my space while sleeping and don’t like to be breathed on, even by my beloved. He wouldn’t be beloved for long if he breathed on me while I was trying to sleep.
I’m not as minimal as you are, but I think your room is perfection!

  3. I am a minimalist and so my heart was in full Swoon Mode when I saw the hutch/storage. I LOVE it (we have a similar piece in our house and almost a decade later I love it just as much as I did when we bought it – minimal things never seem to go out of style).

I love the aesthetic in your room (and everywhere else in you’re place I’ve seen)! And I love, love, love the hanging lights. That would be so convenient for reading and it means the top of your bedside tables aren’t cluttered up.

I am Team King Size Bed. Now sleeping on anything smaller than that feels tragic; trying to sleep on a double/full is a nightmare. Ugh.

  4. I’m glad the story ended well. I wondered for a minute if you were going to tell us that the cabinet was discontinued or something. Your room looks lovely.

I’m not a minimalist but I don’t enjoy clutter either, which does not explain the state of my room. My daycare requires I have two baby beds in my room at all times. Until summer. We positioned our old headboard in a way to partition off a corner of the room so the baby does not see the older kid who sleeps on a cot in front of my dresser. We just got our first kind size bed after 28 years of marriage. Thus the spare headboard. I just bought a new bedspread but have not officially switched it over yet. I loved my queen one so much. I have a few extra pillows on the bed, but nothing over the top.

  5. Oh, what a lovely, calming bedroom. I really love it! I am definitely more of a minimalist when it comes to decor but I have to do better … we have lived in our new home for five months but because of travel and so much going on, I am still in the unpacking phase and haven’t hung up all the art.

    1. We lived for ten years in our previous house and there were still some photos of the kids that we hadn’t hung so when we moved we vowed not to make the same mistake.

  6. What a lovely bedroom. I love the whole aesthetic. The side board is really cool. And the artwork as well.
We do have a tone of pillows for looks but I am bothered by removing them every night and throwing them on the floor because I have no other place to put them.

  7. Oh, the TV/Entertainment plugs would bug me, too. We have never had a TV in our room, and I don’t want to. We used to have a king sized bed and I miss it, but I work from home and the only place to put my desk is in our bedroom, so we had to downsize to a queen. SAD.

Your room is very peaceful and looks relaxing, a perfect oasis.
