Chip War: The Fight for the World’s Most Critical Technology – Chris Miller

So maybe I’m showing my nerdiness here, but this was great. A fascinating look at the chip industry from its beginning to now. Espionage, intrigue and science all rolled into one good read. Explains who the big players are in the chip industry, how they came about, the current choke points in the supply chain and the international tension surrounding the industry. Hilariously, the company that was an FBI front to entrap employees of Hitachi trying to steal industrial secrets had the same name as our small business.

Be Still: A Simple Guide to Quiet Times – Brian Heasley

This is a quick and easy read. Full of lots of ideas for deepening a daily quiet time. Served as a good reminder to go back to some things that have fallen out of my routine (journalling mainly). I was particularly interested in the section on walking while praying and also using physical objects to help concentration. Both things that I haven’t tried but think may be a good match for me … I often unconsciously start doing laps around the house when I’m talking on the phone.

  1. Love the idea of the Be Still book. Reminds me of the book 24/6 by Matthew Sleeth (?) where he talks about praying through the verse Be still and know that I am God. You continue to remove words as you reciteB the verse:
Be still and know that I am God
Be still and know that I am
Be still and know that I
    Be still and know
    Be still
    Be

    1. Thanks for this comment Elisabeth. That is profound.

  2. I added the Chip War to my TBR. I’m always looking for interesting non-fiction. Although, I have to admit that I’m somewhat disappointed that this is about computer chips and not delicious chips for eating!

    1. LOL. Now I want to read the book about the Chips (for eating) war!
