Another Beach Day
I managed to squeeze in a second beach day before I left my parents’ place in Point Lonsdale. Since I’ve been home we’ve had one day that would have been perfect for the beach but with all the rain the water in the bay is brown, so no swimming for me.
Getting back to a Parkrun
The last Parkrun I did was in July 2023. On Saturday we decided to head to the Balyang Parkrun. This Parkrun in Geelong is where I got my current Parkrun record but the last time I was there was in January 2019. It’s a good course—an out-and-back along the river on an asphalt shared path.
Cliff Top Trail Run
Sunday morning we drove to Torquay to do our long runs. It’s a pretty challenging run from Torquay to Bells Beach but the views are spectacular. I did 18K—I’m slowly building. This weekend I’ll do 20K which our coach semi-jokes is the minimum distance for a run to count as long!
Produce from my Garden
The beans have been cropping heavily and I also picked some small, sweet strawberries.I also had to give the rhubarb a big trim because it was out of control.
Finished Puzzle
The girls came over on Monday and finished off the puzzle. This was a 1500-piece one. We’ve started the next one—a 2000-piece that we gave our eldest for Christmas.
Eating Outside
We’ve eaten outside a few times this week. I especially enjoy having breakfast and doing my QT out there.
Bonus Good Things
- After dinner walks. With daylight savings, there’s plenty of time to do this before the sun sets.
- Summer stonefruit. I got some nectarines in this week’s box. This is what I think summer tastes like.
- YA science fiction—easy reading, fast-paced plotting. Great for when you just want to immerse yourself in a story.
- Lots and lots of rhubarb. I want to try a recipe I’ve got for Rhubarb Fizz.
- Seeing the floor in my son’s room.
Have you had a good week?

My good things are the “polar” opposite of yours! We’ve had some winter storms which caused school to be closed for two days this week. The snow is very pretty, but the only sensible thing to do right now is to stay home.
I can’t imagine living somewhere where it snows. I don’t know how i’d deal with it.
Are those the beans that turn green when you boil them? Nice!
Yes they are. some of these are bigger than I normally want them but they made3 really good italian tomatoey green beans.
That cliff run looks great! What a beautiful place to run. I do not know what the limit is to be able to call a run a “long run.” To me I would think it would depend on what distance you are training for. When I was doing marathon training, I think the “long run” was just the longest run that week, which started at maybe 14 miles on the first training week and worked up to 20 miles at the end. However, now that I run ultras, I think a 15-20 mile run is just a normal run and if you are training for a 50 miler, a long run would have to be at least 50k! So it depends!
P.S. I love stonefruit season! It really does scream “summer” doesn’t it!?
Most of our running group is training for 5-42km so I guess the coach is going off that. HE does sayd it tongue in cheek though.
The trail run looks gorgeous. And I love sitting outside in the morning… I had to remind myself that it’s summer where you are 🙂
Wel we aren’t having the best weather this summer, but still warmish. I had to wear a jumper this morning.
Love the puzzle – I just finished our 2023 photobook and so very recently went through all our Rome pictures. *Happy sigh*
I can’t WAIT to be able to do my quiet time outside again!!!
THat is the best part of putting together a photobook – reliving all the memories.
Your outdoor morning looks so peaceful, and your run looks beautiful. I agree, stone fruit means summer. That and really good tomatoes.
Yes, love good tomatoes. Ours currently have lots of green ones on them, I’m hoping they don’t get stolen by possums or our dog before they ripen.
I always wanted to do a 2000 piece puzzle but never have. I did get two 1000 puzzles for Christmas though.
These purpelish beasn look fu. I hve never seen soemthing like that. Do they taste different compared to the regular green ones?
THe turn green once they’re cooked and taste like normal beans.
