As the title says, this is not my first list of pet peeves, see here, and more peeves here and here.
Some more things I STRONGLY dislike …
- Cars not parked within the bays. Double thumbs down for if the car park is close to full. We saw some of these at Noosaville Woolworths while we were there. We saw the car in the photo above parked in the car park at Betws-y-Coed in Wales. They went one better than taking up more than one car park, they also took up the road as well. It was still there when we came back at the end of our Snowdon hike. I really do not understand what was going on here.
- Going to work sick when you can work remotely … WHY? A guy at my daughter’s work went to work sick and gave COVID to the whole team. Seriously, when you work from home two days a week anyway JUST.STAY.HOME.
- Companies implementing AI crap bots. Luckily not me dealing with it, but friends/family reporting being stuck in an AI-chat bot hell loop when ringing for customer service. I suppose the companies figure that if they got away with replacing their decent on-shore call center with a crappy off-shored call center which is a lottery as to whether you get someone who can help you, then why not try replacing that with an even crappier AI-bot that has even longer odds of achieving anything.
- Politicians who are too busy playing politics to actually engage in useful governing. I know it’s in their name but they are not paid to be politicians, they are paid to govern. GRRR. Exhibit A: The current productivity talk fest where the most important possible measures (taxation changes) were ruled out in advance of any talks. Our kids are being shafted. Change needs to happen but everyone is too scared to do anything.
Feel free to weigh in with your own peeves in the comments.

I think young people these days are totally getting the shaft. It is SO hard out there right now, in terms of employment, etc. It is really frustrating and I don’t know what is going to happen.
Funny you mention AI, I had an incident this week in which I was so puzzled by something I got – it made no sense – and then I realized it must have been generated by AI.
Ugh ugh UGH there is no need to spread all our germs! I’m sorry your daughter is sick.
Parking lots are the bane of my existence on so many levels.
I hope that our government can pull its finger out and do something. There is an economist here who labelled it inter-generational bastardry at the productivity conference, which sounds about right.
That parking lot picture is HILARIOUS. Also, dangerous and frustrating.
Current pet peeve: when people leave their turning signal on long after they’ve moved.
I know, you have to work out whether they are going to turn or not, which kind of defeats the purpose of having indicators.
Omg. That parking job! The person must have been extremely intoxicated. That is the only way someone would park like that and walk away thinking it was just fine. What is wrong with people!! I get annoyed my bad parking jobs, too! But I have never seen something that terrible!
I hate it when people come to work sick. My office has an in office requirement but you can mark yourself as working elsewhere to get credit for being in the office. A coworker told me that is what she does when she is ill so she doesn’t fall behind on her badge swipes. I am going to do that going forward and will tell my employee to as well.
You are right about them probably being drunk, but it really was parked so straight, just not in the lines.
Ohhh number 4….. just look at the US government…
For me:
Bad parking jobs- yes
People beeping at me when it’s not an emergency, but to express their anger- shut up.
Playing videos/music on a train or a close public place. Use your headphones. Heck, even the beach- someone brought not a small bit a big speaker.
People taking a long time to get their thoughts out
Low tire pressure sensor on my car :/ it comes on even when the tires are fine. I wish I could turn it off.
“Talking” car when you park- the vehicle beeps to alert you that you are close. I wish I didn’t have that.
People who don’t use earbuds in public are so annoying. I get annoyed when G is watching a video on his computer or phone without headphones as well. It’s so distracting.
That car… wow I want to know the back story. Living in Berlin and having to park a car down-town for so many years every space is sacred and everyone (mostly out-of owners) using too much space drives me nuts.
People standing in the middle of the street/sidewalk to chat. Excuse me? Step aside.
There are more but I don’t want to get into a a rant.
Haha, yes to the chatters in the middle of the sidewalk, also walking 2-3 abreast on a path so that oncoming walkers have to veer off.
Oh, yes. When people do a crap parking job and then other people can’t use the adjacent spaces – grrrr.
I think I already said this last time, but when people don’t scoot over in a pew at church and then we have to crawl over them or we sit somewhere else (more often the case) because we don’t want to crawl over them. Should we get to church earlier? Probably, but still – why can’t people sit on the inside of the pew. Nonsense.
This doesn’t really impact me, but when I see little kids in a restaurant or at church or in a grocery cart – they are so often being entertained by a parent’s phone – a video or something. What will happen down the road? Can children not sit idle, use their imagination? Good grief.
I can see some reasons why people might want to sit at the end of a row in church, but if that’s the case, they stand up and let you in. Climbing over people is a pain. Yes, to the phones as well. We were out to lunch, and on a table near us were two teenagers with what looked like their grandparents, and they spent the whole time on their phones. Our kids would not dare be on their phones at the table.
I feel like I have a lot of pet peeves, but now that you ask about them, I’m fresh out. I honestly try to assume good intentions about people, so if they’re parked badly/illegally, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they’re dealing with an emergency. I mean, this is definitely the privilege of being somebody able bodied, of course.
I am annoyed with AI chatboxes right now. If I need help from a company and all I can get is chat nonsense, it’s not helpful!
Well being fresh out of pet peeves is not a bad thing.
I am guessing that parking job was an elderly person. They probably felt like they had pulled up really close to the fence? I am guessing their depth perception is off. OR it could be someone who was just going to “pop into” the store really quickly and so just slammed on the brakes and jumped out of the car? To me that would be a young person. So my guess is ancient or very young! Not drunk, or it would have been more cockeyed.
Parking over the line just a little really annoys me, especially when I am looking for parking, see the hole, and then realize it is not QUITE big enough. I want to key their car. I never have nor would I ever, but I do have mean thoughts in my head.
Yes, so annoying when you can’t get into a park because someone is over the line.
