I had on my 101 Things list to rough out a five-year travel wish list. G and I did it last month and here it is:

You can see we did some mind changing and moving things around while we were working on this. A lot of our travel will be focused on G’s World Major Marathons. We generally have one trip to Europe where G works and then we’ve added in one in Australia or Asia/Pacific. We decided to write out a rough plan so we can do the most active holidays first before we’re too old and decrepit.
On the facing page of my notebook more ideas for later:

Are any of these places on your travel wish list? Where would you choose to go first?

Oh, what a great list!
I haven’t been to Iceland or the Czech Republic yet. There’s so much in Eastern Europe I’d love to explore. I just watched a documentary on Central Serbia and Albania, and it looked absolutely stunning. Even better, it hasn’t been overrun by Instagrammers yet, which makes it all the more appealing.
There is just so much to see around the world. My list just keeps growing.
There is so much on your list I want to see! I mean I pretty much want to go everywhere. We are going to Morocco in a few weeks, which is so exciting. Next year, it’s Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam in the winter and then South Africa!
I look forward to hearing about your trip to Morocco. That’s some great trips you have planned.
I carefully read through your list and Melissa, I’m devastated to see Nova Scotia didn’t make the cut. You need to come visit me! Pretty please 😉
I would like to go every single place on your list.
I’ve been to Iceland for a short visit and want to go back for a much longer trip another time. We’re debating going to Croatia at some point next year. I’ve heard such amazing things.
I would love to come to see you at some stage. There are so many places to visit.
Hey, Boston – it’s not near me, but it’s in the US. I love Boston. Great city. I do not have a travel list. I think the next place we’ll go will depend on where our next kid might study abroad. I’ve been to Ireland several times. I see that’s on the long list. I would like to visit Poland. Mini wanted to go while studying abroad and she didn’t get to. My good friend here (the one who also runs a day care) is Polish and her mom is from there, so I said Mini and I should go with her – she could be our tour guide. I’d like to go to France someday. This year I’d settle for warm weather destination over spring break. Maybe?
This is the first time we’ve made a travel list. I think it is easier when it is just G and me at home now.
How fun to make a list of places to travel to! Of the places on your list, the one I most want to visit is Croatia. I’d love to do a long trip there with time on a catamaran or something like that. That won’t happen until our kids are much older/maybe out of the house. We are kind of on a grand pause from big travel while the kids are little. But eventually we will do some bigger trips with them in the next 3-4 years. Initially we’ll probably focus on some of our National Parks.
We only occasionally did big trips with the kids, even once they got to primary school and older, because travelling with three kids is expensive. We did manage to get the kids to the US for a roadtrip around a number of the National Parks and also took them by themselves on a trip to Europe. Other than that we holidayed in Australia.
Do I read Berlin in 2026? If that happens I would love to meet up.
A lot of your destinations are on my travel list too: Iceland, Sardinia, Scotland, Boston.
I have been in a few places you list.
This is so exciting. Maybe I should ask the husband if we should do this too – otherwise we never really go on vacation. I just have a hard time doing all the planning and booking afterwards. It is always such a struggle to accompany both our interests.
Yes, G wants to do the Berlin Marathon. If that happens, I’d love to meet up. Luckily, G and I overlap on what we enjoy, except for museums, which I will usually do on my own.
