Some More Local Outdoor Art

A couple of weeks ago I posted about some of the street art and graffiti in our local area. I’ve since captured a few more examples of public art. I think most of this is commissioned to prevent graffiti.

On the side wall of a house adjacent to a laneway
Signal Control Box painted by Merindah Funnell a contemporary Indigenous (Gunditjmara) artist based in Victoria.
This one on a garage wall on a laneway. This was only partialy successful at deterring taggers, but at least the tags blend in to the overall design, I guess?

  1. These look great!
And now you’ve reminded me that I really should take a few photos of the mural art around Cape Town – the colours are wild.
Thankfully, the city has very little of the messy tagging, so the good stuff actually stands out.

    1. Oh, I’d love to see that!

  2. I absolutely love this. It really adds flair to architecture that would otherwise be forgettable.

    1. Yes, especially the public toilets. I think there is another painted public toilet block at our local shops.

  3. These are pretty. I’m surprised that graffiti artists are deterred – does it seem like they aren’t interested in painting something that is already artistic?

    1. I think maybe painting over other art is a nonno, plus the tagging doesn’t stand out as much.

  4. I love when there’s a pop of color when you look around! Very cool.

    1. I think the art adds to the neighbourhood.
