"Instructions for living a life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it." – Mary Oliver

WITL: Sun, May 7th

7:05 Wake up. Wild.Ai check-in. I haven’t been doing Pilates as I get back to full health, but I think I’m ready now so I log on and book into a class for tomorrow morning. Lectio 365.

7:22 Get up. Have some toast with almond butter and banana. Get dressed. Drive to pick up our friend then park in Middle Park.

8:25 Grab a takeaway oat latte at Ned’s European Bakery. Walk to Albert Park to watch our running mates in the AV 10km road race.

9:04 We find a good place to watch where we can duck under cover if it gets too wet. Hubby was supposed to be running, but he’s injured his hip. It gets a bit rainy, but we take cover in the worst of it, and we have coats and an umbrella so we just get a little bit wet.

Oat latte and chocolate and hazelnut babka slice.

9:50 The course is two laps of a 5km loop. We see most of our friends pass by for the second time, then head back to Ned’s for another coffee and a pastry. Our daughters meet us there. One drove, and the other did her long run from her place to the cafe. After we’ve finished eating, Hubby goes with our friend to Chadstone, shopping for running shoes, and my daughters takes me home. They come in to see Riley.

11:34 Girls go home. I read blogs and order a delivery of groceries from Returnr.

Trimming the mint and Vietnamese mint back down to a neat mound.

12:13 Hang out the washing. Tidy kitchen. Make bed. The weather has cleared up, so I go outside and trim the mint. Put on chickpeas to cook. Wash and dry the mint I trimmed off and hang for drying in our wardrobe. Take out the rubbish. One big difference with an apartment is that putting the rubbish out now means a trip downstairs to the bin room. Hubby comes home. I make lunch.

13:21 Eat lunch. Leftover roast potato scrambled up with an egg on toast. Read blogs.

Photos and memorabilia from my younger daughter’s primary school days are set out in piles by year.

13:45 Start sorting my younger daughter’s box of memorabilia and photos.

15:00 Running. I only need to do 5.4km to make up my 40km for the week.

15:48 Get home. Eat one of the mandarins off our tree. Start preparing dinner.

16:11 Shower. Do a bit more sorting of my daughter’s photos.

5:50 Leave for church. The evening service is a casual discussion-based gathering which suits us.

18:15 Get home and finish making dinner. Iranian Inspired Chickpea and Lentil Soup.

18:50 Eat dinner. Watch the last bit of the footy match. Hubby’s team wins again.

19:30 Watch Masterchef. It was delayed a week because one of the judges died the day before it was supposed to air. It’s a bit sad to watch him and know that he’s dead.

21:15 Start watching an episode of Reacher.

21:30 Our son arrives home with friends from church. Chat with them.

21:52 Clean teeth. Bath. Read book.

22:38 Lights out.

  1. I still can’t believe you can eat a mandarin off a tree in your yard!!!

    1. I’m shocked that we got some this year. Usually we’d have to wait at least one year to get fruit. The other citrus trees haven’t produced yet.

  2. That soup sound delicious! i want to make it- I know Iranian food uses a lot of fresh herbs. And, you have a lot of runners in your family- you, your husband your daughter… (anyone else?)

    1. Yes, the soup is yummy and pretty easy to make. We have a heap of overgorwn herbs in our garden at the moment, so I used what I had. Vietnamese mint instead of coriander. I didn’t have dill and I used fressh mint instead of dried. Only the three of us run, all in the same running group. My other daughter and son find running boring and prefer team sports like basketball and soccer.

  3. A good, solid day. All those pieces of bread in the bakery look AMAZING, well, and the babka… Looks delicious.

    1. Yes it was very yummy … but quite large. I managed to finish it though.
