Good Things Friday

Some good things from my week …

Making Jam

We turned the silvan berries we picked last Friday into jam. The kitchen smelt so good when the jam was cooking. We’ve now restocked our pantry with jam to last us for the year.

A Beach Day

The weather has not been great this summer. Not very warm and very rainy. Many parts of the state are currently on flood alert, or already flooded, but last Saturday the sun came out and it was 30C. We went to the back beach at Point Lonsdale and it was glorious. That was my first swim in the ocean this season. Happily, it looks like we’re going to get a few more good weather days this week and I plan to make the most of them.

A Sensible Riley

Our dog Riley has finally started using his kennel when it’s raining and we are out. He used to just curl up at the back door and get wet. He had obviously still spent some time in the rain but at least he knows he can get out of the rain. This was Monday when the worst rain hit.

Scenic Runs

Sometimes I mix it up on my runs but this is on the path I take most often when I’m staying with my parents.

Flowering Gums

Every Christmas holidays the red flowering gums put on a stunning show around Point Lonsdale. The Rainbow Lorikeets love them too!

  1. I love these pictures! Good job Riley, on going into your house. We have gum trees (eucalyptus) here, though of course they are not native. I’ve never seen one that flowered, though.

    1. We have a lot of flowering gums naturally but there are also lots of cultivars now. They are really beautiful.

  2. Mmmmm. Those bottles of jam look delicious!

    1. Silvan berries make the best jam. It is my favourite.

  3. Homemade jam is the best. I made it for the first time last summer and I am definitely planning on making more this year. So easy, so delicious, so much cheaper than storebought.

    1. Yes, jam is surprisingly easy to make.

  4. I had to google silvan berries as I had no idea what they were. Also so interesting what grows in other parts of the world. The jam looks great. And that bird. How colorful.
