On the weekend, I hit the read all button on my Feedly. I was browsing through, thinking wow, there are a lot of unread posts, then I remembered I don’t have to read everything that comes through there. Now I have a fresh start and can enjoy reading new posts without being distracted by the need to be “caught up.”
Saturday afternoon, the Matilda’s were playing France in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Quarter finals. They had never made the semis before, so it was pretty exciting. Unfortunately, we also had a 60th birthday party that evening, and the match didn’t start until 5 pm. We watched the first part at home and then on Hubby’s phone as we rode the train into the city. We disembarked at Flinders St station and had time to kill before the party. By this time, the score was 0-0, and the game was in extra time, so we popped into Fed Square and squeezed into a position where we could see the big screen. Extra time finished at 7:30 pm, and there was still no result, and we had to go to the party by then. We walked up and, once at the party, joined the small group crowded around someone’s phone to see the end of the penalty shootout. Half the group were strangers to me, but we bonded over our shared agony and ecstasy as the Aussies finally overcame France 7-6.
Sunday morning, I had to be out at Braeside for a cross-country race by 9 am. I was not feeling great, lack of sleep, and a few glasses of wine will do that. Luckily I’d put down a reasonably conservative time estimate, so at least I was put in the slowest team. The race was a relay where each runner ran two legs of the three-kilometre course. I was the first runner in my team and set off way too fast in the first kilometre and felt like vomiting before I settled into a more sensible pace to match my condition. I managed to hold it together and finish 4s faster than my time estimate 15:26. Not great, but I was out there. I wasn’t looking forward to the second lap as I waited for my teammates to do their first legs, I wasn’t feeling any better while standing there. The second lap was 12s slower, but what a relief to have that done. A short cool down and I layered up in my warm clothes and got a coffee while I waited for my teammates to finish. I must say though, I felt extremely fortunate that this race had moved from its previous venue which had a horrible hill at the end. Yay for flat courses!
The last puzzle we did turned into a fun family activity. We have a ten-seater dining table, so we can still sit the kids and us for dinner if we’re using the end for a large puzzle, but we have a problem when people come over. To solve this, I got two thick pieces of cards and taped them together to form our new puzzle board. This means we’ll be able to move the puzzle to our bedroom if we need the full table. The next puzzle is already out and ready to go, it’s one we’ve done before but a long time ago.
That’s about it from me. Have you hit “read all” recently? Do you enjoy sports spectating? How was your weekend?

I sometimes get overwhelmed by Feedly, too, if I’m away and miss time. I’ve never hit “read all” but I will definitely skim (like REALLY fast) posts and not comment (which makes me feel slightly guilty, but I’m commenting a lot less than I used to because of time priorities).
You are a generous commenter, and although I love having you comment, it’s important to stick with your time priorities.
“Read all” and “play all as listened”
I only follow like 6 blogs and even for those that I do follow, I may read them, scan them, and maybe reply, if something tugs at me or if I have a connection.
A bigger overwhelm for me is the podcasts that I have accumulated. In June of this year it was getting out of control, with so many shows cranking out episodes. I unfollowed 80%. Now I only follow… let’s see.. FIVE shows, with a weekly new episode here and there. Much less overwhelming. I noticed that I accumulated all those gurus and all the advice was just too much.
Yes, I have a tendency to accumulate things in my feed. I do try to regularly go through and unfollow, but I’ve I’m also taking the advice of Oliver Burkemann to treat the feed like a river … something I get to dip into rather than “complete”
I cannot bring myself to hit “read all”, but when my Feedly list gets long, I definitely skim and clear out posts that I am not very interested in. I usually catch up with my “Favorites” list though.
Yes, read my favourites before I hit read all.
