    Good Things Friday

It’s once again been two weeks since my last good things post, but we were away hiking last Friday. Our trip was a very good thing over the fortnight but I’ll write about that in some other posts. I do want to mention a couple of things though … Extended time with good friends The first weekend of our trip we hired a house and invited our friends (S and N) who live in Launceston to come down for the weekend. They moved to Tasmania just over a year ago and I’ve missed them. S and I caught up last October, watching the Melbourne Marathon and agreed we would get…

    Good Things Friday

Rounding up all the good things this week. I wrote that sentence last week and then got so busy, I’m now rounding up the good things from the last two weeks. These two weeks have been a little chaotic at times. We had some pretty wild weather last week, with our state experiencing the worst power outages in many years. More than 550,000 homes and businesses were without power due to damaged powerlines and poles. Then, massive transmission line towers blew down and the resulting disruption in the grid caused our biggest powerplant to trip. To protect the rest of the grid another 90,000 homes lost power due to deliberate…

    List #7: Places I’ve Lived

I have never lived outside Melbourne. We currently live the furthest I ever have from where I was born which was the William Angliss Hospital in Ferntree Gully—31 km away. Here’s the list in order of all the places I’ve lived Have you lived in lots of different houses? Do you still live near where you were born?

    Good Things Friday

A few of the good things from my week … Cutback Week with Albert Parkrun Last weekend I was still on my cutback week for running, which I love. It meant I had a shorter long run, which gave me a chance to do something different. I switched my long run to Saturday because the weekend was going to be hot but it was starting with a lovely cool morning on Saturday. I ran from home to the Albert Parkrun. This is the biggest Parkrun in Australia and last Saturday there were 956 participants. I ran the 5K loop at about what I think will be marathon pace, then after…

    Good Things Friday

Today I have two weeks’ worth of good things because last Friday was a … Public Holiday Australia Day was last Friday which meant we had a long weekend, so we drove down to my parents at Point Lonsdale. One of my sisters and her family were also there. The weather was not hot, but it was very pleasant. We did lots of just hanging round. I did a hilly long run, up the Bellarine Rail Trail, and we had lunch outside before heading home on Sunday. Oh, and my mum and nephew bought home the golf trophy from their competition on Sunday. My worm farm My nifty worm farm…

    Good Things Friday

Another Beach Day I managed to squeeze in a second beach day before I left my parents’ place in Point Lonsdale. Since I’ve been home we’ve had one day that would have been perfect for the beach but with all the rain the water in the bay is brown, so no swimming for me. Getting back to a Parkrun The last Parkrun I did was in July 2023. On Saturday we decided to head to the Balyang Parkrun. This Parkrun in Geelong is where I got my current Parkrun record but the last time I was there was in January 2019. It’s a good course—an out-and-back along the river on…

    Good Things Friday

Some good things from my week … Making Jam We turned the silvan berries we picked last Friday into jam. The kitchen smelt so good when the jam was cooking. We’ve now restocked our pantry with jam to last us for the year. A Beach Day The weather has not been great this summer. Not very warm and very rainy. Many parts of the state are currently on flood alert, or already flooded, but last Saturday the sun came out and it was 30C. We went to the back beach at Point Lonsdale and it was glorious. That was my first swim in the ocean this season. Happily, it looks…

    Good Things Sunday

I usually post my good things on Friday but I had vertigo/migraine on Friday and screens usually make it worse so I followed Friday with a screen-free, no internet day on Saturday. Today I’m feeling a lot better and even managed my long run which was good as I was feeling unwell last weekend and didn’t run at all. The week has been marred by frequent headaches. I’m hoping it’s hormonal and they settle down soon. Despite this, I still have a selection of good things to share. Hanging with the Fam I’ve had lots of time with my extended family over the last few weeks and it has been…
