Five on a Friday

I finally decided to hit buy on a Kobo. I was so excited when I got the notification that it had arrived on Monday and hopped on my bike to pick it up from the post office. Once home I unboxed it and it was basically a brick, with a non-responsive language selection screen showing. The power button was not working so the universal fix for any tech product was a non-starter. It also meant that factory reset did not work. Plugging it in for charging did not change a thing. I think there is supposed to be light to indicating it is charging but mine did not light up. I got onto support explained what was happening and they are going to exchange it for a new one. What makes this process more complicated is that we are going away next weekend for five weeks so I am organising for them to send it to Noosaville. I’m disappointed though. I wanted it set up and ready to go for the trip. GRRR!

Update: I was in the city on Wednesday and JB had the Kobo in stock so I bought one then and have organised to get a refund on the non-functioning one.

When posted about my new 101 List I mentioned my whizz bang spreadsheet tracker. When I fill the information in the data sheets it updates the list on the front to give me an overview of my progress and compares it to where I need to be. Is it completely over the top? Yes it is! I love it so much.

One of the things on my list was to average more than two hours outside. It’s winter now and I’m not yet up to a high volume of running per week so I thought I’d be on the lower side but at the moment I’m tracking at an average of 1 hour 21 minutes which surprised me. That was without making a special effort to increase it. Most of the time is running, with the addition of walking, a bike ride, a coffee at an outdoor table and some gardening.

I finally cleaned out my pantry. Left before and right after. It’s actually quite hard to tell by the photos but it is a lot neater and definitely more organised. Some things got thrown out, I transferred most of the items in plastic into the second hand glass jars I’ve been collecting and can now fit some of the things that were floating homeless round my kitchen as there was no room in the pantry. This was a hugely satisfying task and I have wandered in to admire my work on multiple occasions since I finished it.

A little selection of things of my GOOD list:

  • Another beautiful blue sky winter day. Feels even better after rainy days. So a thanks for the rainy, windy days that make these feel so much better?
  • H never liked mash, so it only made the occasional appearance at our dinner table, but I’ve recently rediscovered how good it is, especially in our current wintry weather. I especially like a mix of sweet potato and potato.
  • Chats with fellow Goldie owners in the park
  • Lovely nurse working doing the blood tests today
  • Prayer night, just what I needed
  • The mirror-like sheen of the bay on a still day
  • Fiona’s dinner at SOS
  • Getting accommodation booked for our trip. I triple the enjoyment by the anticipation then the remembering

And a new recipe that we loved: Zesty One Pot Lemon Chicken with White Beans

When was the last time you went back and admired a job well done? How has life been lately?

  1. Last time I admired a job well done?…. Hmmm… I do not remember. So that means I have to be more “in the moment”
This week is the week where I am home after my academic year so what I’m doing is – catching up on everything. Catching up on house. Laundry. Self. Yesterday I had my hair color and cut. Went out to lunch with Tony. Washed clothes. Tidied up the house. Read my book.
Today is more of the same. Just enjoying the freedom of being off work.

  2. Nice job on averaging more than an hour outdoors every day despite the winter!
Small chunks add up – a run here, a walk there, some gardening, sitting outside for a coffee… and there you are, suddenly you’re over an hour a day!

It also makes me think how much easier it is to spend time outdoors when exercise is already part of your routine. Most people would have to consciously carve out that time, whereas for you it’s almost built in.
