I was stuck largely at home over the weekend and until Wednesday morning with a cold. It was good to finally get out and about a bit—to the gym and a meeting at church on Wednesday and some errands on my bike on Thursday—but I’m taking it slowly. Here are some homey good things from this week.
Sweet Chilli Sauce
I love a bit of sweet chilli sauce on my oat and lentil porridge, it’s also good on grain bowls and in chicken wraps. Since my chilli plant has produced well this year, and I needed to use them before trimming the plant back before winter, I decided to bottle up some sweet chilli sauce. I made a half batch of this recipe, which made one jar for me and a little bit for my daughter to take home.
Books, libraries, people who write books …
this is self-explanatory, obviously. Above is the current crop of books from my libraries.
Party Preparation
My mum is turning 80 this August, and my siblings and I are organizing everything. About a month ago, we organized the venue, and this week, I put together and sent out the “Save the Date” messages. I love a good party!
My Husband
With my sore foot, cold, and a migraine on Wednesday (between the gym and the church meeting), G has been doing all the errands and shopping. This is on top of all the other normal ways he is good! He’s off to Noosa this weekend with his friends from school, so I’m glad I’m feeling better now.
Bonus Good Things
- I made a Smoky Chickpea, Red Lentil and Vegetable Soup recommended by Elisabeth, and it was good. If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend it. It’s easy, tasty and healthy.
- Monday night family dinners.
- Leftovers. Again, self-explanatory.
- This post about avoiding and responding to passive-aggressive behaviour: “when we talk at”
- My mainly music team who don’t need me. ( I was a non-starter for this week’s session)
Hit me up with some good things from your week … or feel free to vent in the comments … whichever seems appropriate.

I’m impressed- you made chili sauce from home-grown chilis. I’ll bet it’s delicious. And, I’m making that soup this weekend! Everyone keeps talking about it, and I can’t wait to try it. Easy and delicious are what I’m looking for right now.
Your mom has a big birthday coming up! That’s exciting- sounds like you guys are planning a big bash. Everyone who turns 80 should have a fabulous celebration.
We had the sweet chilli sauce on a vietnamese salad on Monday and it was really good, and luckily just the right amount of spicy for me. I’m sure you’ll love the soup.
I’m glad you liked the soup. It’s one of my go-to recipes, mostly because it is so forgiving. I mix and match ingredients differently every time!
Yes, I didn’t have the chickpeas cooked for the soup so I added in brown lentils instead.
How wonderful you are having a party for mom! How many siblings are you? It’s going to be amazing. Are you planning to surprise her?
Good things… Many! A Japanese drumming show, a dinner with T for my birthday (just the two of us), some cake! Flowers and a ballon. Ha. An hour to vaccuum and mop – enjoyed it 🙂
I have one brother and two sisters. It’s not a surprise party but we are organising it because mum and dad are going to be away interstate for the two months before the party.
You did so great things for yuor birthday. Go you!
I’m glad you’re feeling better. Wow, look at all of those library books! I love to read, but not sure where I would find the time to read so many before they are due. Color me impressed!
Happy Birthday to your mom, that’s great!
I probably won’t read all these before they’re due, but I usually try to read the ones that are showing up as unable to be renewed first and renew the others when required. The King book I just finished I had to return to the library and then reborrow it. I made sure I wrote down where I was up to.
I love to see a stack of library books! Yay for libraries!!
I am glad you are feeling a bit better.
Lovely library stack. How many weeks are you allowed to keep them? Here its is usally 4 weeks for physical books but only 14 days for digital ones.
Also I need to check out the soup. Sounds like a good one.
