One of my 101 Things is to have 15 internet-free days. I used to have semi-regular tech-free days but haven’t had one for a while. This time I decided to commit to internet-free days because this still allows me to do some hobbies that I enjoy, like photography and putting together photobooks, while enjoying the benefits of switching off.
Last Saturday was my first one. Some things I did:
Run 5km. The first run since my bout of vertigo so taking it easy. It went well.
Breakfast, read my book and fill in my journal.
ye eldest came over and finished the section of the puzzle we’d left for her. (That’s one of five puzzles finished for my 101 Things)
Younger daughter arrives and we take Riley for a walk. The wind was insane and we all ended up sneezing from the pollen.
Pack away the finished jigsaw and start a new one.
Eat lunch.
Walk to get some food for dinner.
Watch the AFL grand final. My husband’s team was in the Grand Final and he was at the game. The game was intense, with the lead changing multiple times and no team ever being ahead by more than ten points. In the end, Collingwood (my husband’s team) won by four points. It would have been awesome to be there. It was a full house with 100,024 people watching in the stadium plus fan sites outside (my son was working there) and at the Olympic Park. My daughter was just happy that Collingwood won because then we didn’t have to put up with a grumpy husband/dad for the next week.
Intersperse the football watching with working on the puzzle.
One daughter left early for her birthday dinner with her friends.
Dinner with the eldest and a bit more work on the puzzle before she left, taking my library books with her to drop off.
An early night because daylight saving started Sunday morning.
Things I missed: Checking the weather to see which way the wind was blowing before my run In the morning and also before I went to bed I would have checked the weather to work out clothes for the next morning’s run. Other than that I didn’t miss the internet at all.
What internet thing would you miss?

Since I post to my blog every single day, if I skipped a day on the internet, I’d have to work ahead and heaven help me, that sounds hard!
I love that you do so many jigsaw puzzles. That was quite a thing for us during the pandemic, but it’s been awhile since we’ve done one. I’ll add it to my list of things to do when the weather gets unbearable.
It was our son who got us back into jigsawa. He started one while we were away and the rest of us finished it and enjoyed it so much that we’ve had one going continuously since I got the board so we can move them off the table if neccessary.
Reading blogs, for sure! Other than that, I don’t do a ton on the internet that I’d miss. I mean…work e-mails are pretty important but I wouldn’t necessarily miss them… 😉
The work emails, that is why I have to do this on a weekend. As well as all the other admin that gets pretty difficult without the internet. I definately wouldn’t want to try this for too long, but it is a good exercise occasionally for a limited time.
I would miss reading blogs, but what would be most difficult I think would be not being able to do my wordle and other word puzzles in the morning. It’s such a lovely way to start my day.
I’m laughing at the picture of the players hugging, because of the guy in the background, and because I’m 8.
LOL!
Reading blogs is a popular one. I would definately miss that if it was for a number of days.
That must have been so liberating!! I won’t miss much since I don’t do much, but work, of course, emails and lessons.
Yes, but I couldn’t do it on a weekday. I do usually think through what I’m planning on doing prior to make sure I won’t need the internet.
Like others have commented, I would miss reading blogs. But I could survive for a day without it! I would also miss checking the weather… but that’s also not a big deal because our weather is pretty uch the same every day right now.
Staying home doing puzzles looks so fun and cozy! My kids and I were into puzzles for a while and now we’ve gotten away from it. You’re making me want to do it again!.
The puzzle board I made had been a game changer for us. We can start a puzzle and not have to worry about when we’re going to need the full dining table.
I love that you did a whole Internet-free day. I should try that sometime… although it would be hard. I rely on the Internet heavily (or is Whatsapp allowed? I usually text/talk with someone oversees every day.)
I think I would miss blogging/blog reading the most… and my workouts (although I guess I could workout without the classes that I usually take – haha).
