Mosel Valley Day 1: Arriving in Cochem

Sunday September 20th 2026

This is was a bit of a travel day. We couldn’t check-in to our apartment so there was no need to rush off. We had breakfast and then I wandered around the castle exploring and taking a few more photos.

This was our room

We had to check out at 11:45 am. This time we organised a taxi to take us down to the station. We arrived into Cochem about 2 pm so we walked into town and found a cafe with outdoor tables on the main square where could get a drink and wait. At 3 pm our accomodation was ready. We had selected an apartment across the river, hoping it would be quiet—which it was. We also had a lovely view straight onto the river. The apartment was clean and well appointed. We really liked this apartment.

For dinner I’d booked Neo’s. So about 6 pm we wandered back across the river. The food and service was good. I also had a nice glass of local wine. Once we’d finished it was dark and the castle was beautifully lit up. Cochem is a very picturesque town.
