I’m walking every street in Brighton, Elwood and Gardenvale. Here’s a selection of the street art I’ve passed on my wanderings.

Street Art is often commissioned here to reduce the amount of ugly graffiti and tagging. Do you like street art? Do you have much where you live?

I don’t love street art, but I don’t hate it either. It depends – sometimes it’s fun to see, but if it’s just gang tagging then I don’t care for it much.
The tagging is annoying.
I love street art. I would love to take a tour of street art in some major city eventually.
We have a bit of street (wall?) art in our town, but it’s only a handful of places. We don’t really have issues with graffiti so it’s more for photo ops than anything, I think?
I like the idea of blank spaces getting used for creativity. That said, sometimes it can detract from the architecture, so I prefer it on the side of things like shipping containers and blank brick walls that might be in a hidden alley.
Most of these are on lane way walls or near the railway that would otherwise have problems with tagging. Melbourne is famous for its street art there are plenty of tours.
We have a fair amount of street art, but we also live in a big city. I generally like it! It adds visual interest.
I agree.
These are great! I love street art as long it’s tastefully done. Have a wonderful week!
Yes, some is better than others.
There might be some street art in downtown Chicago, but not near me in the suburbs. The photos you shared are really fabulous. I guess my preference is natural spaces to look natural, but there are a lot of city spots that just aren’t all that pretty by themselves. I really do not like graffiti, so if street art cuts down on that – then I’d vote for that.
Yes, most of these are back or side fences or walls of buildings that back onto lane ways and railways, and I think the art enhances rather than detracts in those spaces.
Wow, some of those are stunning! I love street art, but not graffiti if it’s just tagging. I love the idea of commissioning them as a preventative against tagging!
The council often gets street artists to paint toilet blocks, utility companies get artists to paint there service boxes and buildings and the state government gets them done round train stations which are all prime spots for graffiti.
I think I love it. Mainly the discovery of street art and the environment it’s ingrained in. I have a lot of detail shots of art in my photo folder. I loved this post. Your neighborhood seems to be very colorful.
Berlin has a lot of street art, too. We enjoyed checking it out when we were there.
Oh I love these. Thanks for sharing them. You have some really cool ones! I think my favorite is the one with the steam train.
We have 180+ murals in Sacramento and one afternoon, when my parents were here, I went exploring with my mom. I should share some of the photos we took in a post!
I’d enjoy seeing the ones in Sacramento
I love street art! We don’t have a lot of it in our city but there are sections where it is more common. I think it is a great way to make industrial spaces much prettier!
It does provide some decoration on boring blank walls
We have a few murals up in our town. I like it because it sets up apart from all the other small towns in our area that look just like ours. You have some awesome art around you!
We have some small country towns that have made their murals a tourist stop
Oh wow! The street art in your city is amazing! I really love the one with the birds. How beautiful! My town has one mural. It’s on the side of a shooting sports store and has a bear with a gun slung over its back and a moose with a bandolier of bullets around its neck. Are they going hunting for humans? There’s a lot to unpack there.
OMG, I wouldn’t know how to take that mural.
