Bi-Yearly Wardrobe Check-Up Part 2

My four drawers contain:

  • Undies (6 pairs all black)
  • Bras (1 black, 2 nude)
  • Socks – various
  • Pyjamas (2 x winter and 2 x summer)
  • Black tights
  • 2 x Belts (1 black, 1 brown)
  • 3 x base layers
  • 2 x scarfs
  • 3 x hiking socks (on that packing list we had)
  • 1 x ski socks

This is my drawer of sports clothes. I usually run four times and do a session of gym and pilates a week. My running-specific bottoms all have decent-sized pockets to carry my phone and fuelling on longer runs

  • 2 x Running shorts
  • 2 x 3/4 running tights
  • 2 x full-length running compression tights
  • 2 x sports shorts (tiny pockets, I bought these before I started during much longer runs, I wear these for hiking, hanging out, gym)
  • 2 x 3/4 length tights (tiny pockets. I use these for pilates/gym, they were second-hand from a relative)
  • 2 x tracksuit pants
  • 2 x running singlet
  • 1 x club singlet (compulsory for cross-country season)
  • 2 x long-sleeve running T-shirt
  • 2 x sports T-shirts I use mainly for hiking, travel etc
  • 5 x running T-shirts (3 of these are finishers T-shirts from races)
  • 3 x sports bras
  • 4 x running socks (I wear Steigen socks which are great for preventing blisters. I have one pair that I only wear for races)
  • 2 x hand-held drink bottles
  • Flip belt (for when I need more room to carry stuff)
  • sports towel

Hanging on a hook in our hallway: Running cap

The next drawer down contains all my summer-specific stuff:

  • 3 x shorts
  • bucket hat
  • beach bag
  • beach towel
  • Two-piece tankini bathers
  • Chlorine resistant one-piece
  • 2 x coverup
  • Rashie
  • Goggles
  • Camp towel
  • Wet bag

The final drawer contains shoes:

  • Silver casual sandals
  • Dressy green shoes
  • Black ankle boots
  • Brown wedges
  • Hiking boots
  • Racing runners

In the hallway cupboard: Easy/long run runners, runners for sessions, thongs, cute casual white leather runners.

On the shelf under the bench at our front door: old runners for walking, going to the dog park

At the back door: slides

Heading to the op shop:

  • Black cotton base layer short sleeves. I don’t know whether this has shrunk a bit, but it is now a bit short in the body, and so not as comfortable to wear.
  • 3 beautiful scarves. Two were gifts, but I don’t wear scarves often enough to keep all these, and this way, hopefully, someone will buy them and give them the love they deserve.
  • Black slip-on shoes. I loved these, but I don’t tend to wear shoes like this anymore.
  • Denim shorts that I’ve had and worn since at least 2009. They’re still pretty good but I feel like the waist is a bit low for my 50+ years body.

Heading to textile recycling:

  • Two pyjama tops that have holes in them. One winter and one summer. I have a long sleeve and short-sleeved T-shirts that are past wearing in public which I’ll replace these with.
  • A couple of odd socks have been waiting on my shelf for their partners for six months, and they haven’t surfaced.

On my list to buy:

  • Nude bra (one of my current has been due to replace for a year now, but I haven’t got around to it)
  • Black bra (this was on my list last Spring. I’m not keen on bra shopping. Maybe I should get the same as I’ve had, which would be easy)

Posts like this are like a long drink of water on a hot day for me – so relaxing to see things organized and arranged!

I don’t own a pair of neutral dressy sandals (I have a pair of strappy sandals I love, but they are black with a HOT pink strip – very cute, but not versatile with non-black outfits)…and am looking for a pair just like your brown sandals. I have a bag of clothes to take to a local consignment store this week and I’m going to see if I can source something similar.

And finding pants/shorts with deep pockets is the best!

I love those beautiful pantries and wardrobes, but I’m a bit more practical with everything. I try to use what I have on hand, hence the cardboard box for sorting. The other containers came out of my son’s old wardrobe, he didn’t want them anymore. What is genius though is Marie Kondo’s directions to fold clothes and stand them on the end, you can see what’s there at a glance instead of having to go through piles of clothes.

I got those wedges last year and love them. They are really comfortable, I’ve worn them on an all day food/wine festival and also walking to and from the train. I got them because I had a longer summer dress and these give me a bit more height with the platform with only a small drop from heel to toe. Also the footbed is nicely padded.

Yes, I’ve had them for years, and they’re still going strong. I love that you can wear them to the beach but also out to a restaurant.

I love posts like these. I have a minimal wardrobe. At work, I stick with dresses plus back tights when it’s cold and nude tights or nude legs during the warmer weather. Why dresses? It’s one piece so I don’t have to think about it.
Separates: pointe pants+blouse+blazer combo is also in regular rotation.
Winter shoes: two pairs that I alternate: both from Thursday Boots (was influenced by an ad in NY Times three years ago)
Summer shoes: one pair of flat sandals (every day), three pairs of heeled sandals (do love heels, mainly for work).
Scarves: 4, regular rotation. I have this thing about keeping my neck warm and I think exposing my neck also makes me feel vulnerable.

Made a mental note to do a post like this- maybe even overhaul my clothes as well.

It sounds like you’ve worked out what works for you. I love dresses for the same reason you mention, and I find that they are usually comfortable and easier to wear.
