Renewal … some initial thoughts
RENEWAL: the instance of resuming something after an interruption the replacement or repair of something I announced my word late last year but didn’t go into a lot of detail about what it might look like in practical terms. I’m pretty excited about it and think it will be a good word to guide me in all areas of my life. As I go through the year I’ll be collecting thoughts and inspiration from my reading, listening and watching and trying to settle into the right amount of the right activities. I want a full life with the right kind of fullness … to be “the right kind of busy”…

Good Things Friday
Another Beach Day I managed to squeeze in a second beach day before I left my parents’ place in Point Lonsdale. Since I’ve been home we’ve had one day that would have been perfect for the beach but with all the rain the water in the bay is brown, so no swimming for me. Getting back to a Parkrun The last Parkrun I did was in July 2023. On Saturday we decided to head to the Balyang Parkrun. This Parkrun in Geelong is where I got my current Parkrun record but the last time I was there was in January 2019. It’s a good courseāan out-and-back along the river on…

Noosa Running
Noosa National Park Loop This is my favourite Noosa run with spectacular scenery and varied terrain. From where we normally stay on the river it’s 14 km in total but from Noosa Beach it’s 9 km. From Hastings St., the trail runs along the coast with a mixture of asphalt and boardwalk and a couple fo decent hills to the National Park. Once there, I always run the loop anti-clockwise, up the Tanglewood Track and then around the coastal trail. The Tanglewood Track is a steep, fairly rough uphill with rocks and tree roots through the rainforest. Since I have been known to trip over on the Elwood Boardwalk I…

List #5: Things I Have No Intention of Ever Doing
Another list for my 50 lists project. These are all the things I have no intention of ever doing. You may have guessed from this list that I’m not a thrill-seeker, I hate heights and I get all kinds of travel sick. Are you a thrill seeker? What kinds of things do you never want to do?

Good Things Friday
Some good things from my week … Making Jam We turned the silvan berries we picked last Friday into jam. The kitchen smelt so good when the jam was cooking. We’ve now restocked our pantry with jam to last us for the year. A Beach Day The weather has not been great this summer. Not very warm and very rainy. Many parts of the state are currently on flood alert, or already flooded, but last Saturday the sun came out and it was 30C. We went to the back beach at Point Lonsdale and it was glorious. That was my first swim in the ocean this season. Happily, it looks…

December 2023 Books
After finishing no books in November, I finished five in December. Several were shorter books so that lifted my total. The Catcher in the Rye – J. D. Salinger I didn’t like this book. Nothing happened, Holden was annoying, and because of this and the fact that the whole book was written in Holden’s “voice” there was no let-up. But, I can see why this is put on school reading lists. It grapples with some important themes and often left me thinking about it after I had put it down. I bought a secondhand copy of this in New York as my souvenir of the city and the city did…
