New York Museums – Sat 4 Nov

Temple of Dendur

This morning G had to drop his bag at the bag drop in Central Park so we walked together to do that. Central Park is looking beautiful with all the autumn leaves.

After dropping the bag G headed back to the hotel and I went to The Met. So, it’s huge, but I am obsessed with very old things so I chose to spend most of my time in the Egyptian galleries, with a few other highlights. I also walked through one of the current exhibitions Tree and Serpent which contained early Buddhist art from India which was fascinating.

After The Met I caught the subway to the 9/11 Memorial. I also visited the museum. A somber experience. At the start there was a walk through with people from around the world reacting to it in recordings and photos. It really bought me back to the day. The saddest was seeing all the flyers people had put up to try to find missing loved ones.

I loved the Met and really want to visit again on my next trip to NYC.

I’d also love to visit New York in the fall. It just looks…magical.

We didn’t go into the WTC Museum, but did spend time at the outside memorial which I thought was absolutely heartbreaking but beautiful. The infinite water loop was calming and such a lovely place to stand and reflect.

The Met is so big it requires multiple visits to do it justice I think. The autumn leaves are rally pretty and the weather was pretty good except for one day which was very cold … although would probably be mild for you.

I have not had the chance to see The Met. When we visited NYC we opted for the American Museum of natural history becasue we figured it might hold things we cant see in Europe. It was interesting but we felt a bit weired because the oldest things there was like 1790… so for us spoiled Europeans it was not that old…
Next time I would also visit the 9/11 Memorial. That wasnit build back when we were in NY in 2012.

I love Funerary Boat you shared. What a meaningful and interesting sculpture.

I’ve only been to NYC twice and can you believe the last time was BEFORE 9/11? I really would like to go back. I haven’t visited any of the museums yet either.
