Melbourne to Noosa Roadtrip: Yamba, Byron Bay

Our third night out of Sydney was spent in Yamba. We arrived mid-afternoon, and after settling into the motel, we went for a walk along the river to the beach and picked up our friend on our way past the caravan park towards the beach. The following day we left for the Gold Coast via Byron Bay. This was the last actual day of our road trip holiday. The Thursday involved sorting out the car and was a work day for Hubby (visiting clients) and I (paying bills), before we went with the business partner to Noosa.

ACTIVITIES

Yamba, we only did a walk along the river. At Ballina, we stopped to get a photo of the Big Prawn, which is now in a Bunnings carpark.

Byron Bay, we checked out the beach (looking and walking, not swimming).

Then we went up to the lighthouse. The section of the walk from town was closed, but we parked in one of the lower NP car park and walked up from there.

Then I did the short walk out to the most easterly point of the Australian mainland.

RUNNING

In preparation for the Noosa half-marathon I was doing 10km total with 4km at goal half-marathon pace. I ran from our accommodation, out along the river and the breakwater. This was a flat course.

FOOD

Pacific Hotel: Situated overlooking the beach at Yamba. Typical pub food. Bar service. It’s all about the views here. We went for dinner.

Beachwood: Gorgeous little hole-in-the-wall cafe. Cooking fabulous middle-eastern inspired food. The tables are all set on the footpath next to the planter garden filled with herbs. I chose the baked eggs. The owner talked me into fresh mandarin juice squeezed from the box of mandarins just dropped off by a resident. It was so, so good. You can see my empty glass above. Cash only, but there is an ATM just down the road. Loved this place.
